Oatmeal is a breakfast staple for many, it´s delicious, easy to make and healthy. With temperature control, you can leave the oats to cook, while you prepare the rest of your breakfast, get dressed or brush your teeth, knowing that the oats won’t burn.

You can easily adjust the oatmeal to your taste. Select between old fashioned and quick oats, milk or water, and then add vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa powder or cardamom to taste. Not to mention all the ways you can vary the toppings on top of the porridge!

Ingredients

Oatmeal

2 dl Rolled oats (approx. 80 g)

2 dl Milk

2 dl Water

0.25 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Vanilla sugar , can be omitted or substitute vanilla extract

Steps

1
Cook the oatmeal

Combine oats, milk, water, salt and vanilla sugar in a saucepan.

Set the temperature to 100ºC. Stir the porridge occasionally. It takes 6-10 minutes depending on how often you stir. The more you stir, the quicker the oats are cooked.

When the oatmeal has reached your preferred consistency, remove it from the heat. Remember that it will thicken slightly as it cools.

While the porridge is cooking, you can prepare your chosen toppings.

Toppings

Divide the porridge into two bowls and top with your favorite toppings.

The oatmeal in the photo is topped with banana, blueberries, chopped almonds and honey, but top it with whatever you prefer.

You could also try topping it with banana, peanut butter and dark chocolate or how about apple, cinnamon sugar and chopped hazelnuts?

Notes

You can use either quick oats or old fashioned, or a mixture if you have both in the pantry. For the porridge in the photo, we used half of each.

You can also choose to use only water or milk, depending on what you have and prefer.
