Choose the right induction hob for your kitchen

When choosing your new induction hob, you should consider how it fits into your kitchen and what your cooking habits are. Read more below.

At Ztove, we have sold many induction hobs over the years and are always happy to help you find the right solution for your kitchen. When our customers need to replace their hob, they often find themselves in the following situations:

  • Kitchen renovation in existing house/apartment
  • New kitchen in new house/apartment
  • Their induction hob is broken
  • They want a Ztove induction hob with temperature control instead of gas, glass ceramic or regular induction

Depending on your situation, there are a few things you should be aware of before you get started. That said, changing an induction hob often doesn’t take much longer than hanging a new lamp once you’ve found your next hob.

What do you need to know when buying a new hob?

No matter which induction hob you need, there are some basic things you should know. Once you know these things, you’ll have a much easier time making the right choice.

What size hob do you want?

  • If you have a smaller kitchen and still want some counter space to work with, consider a Ztove 60 cm induction hob. It’s a classic size that most people are familiar with from a stove.
  • If you have a larger kitchen, we recommend a Ztove 80 cm induction hob. It doesn’t take up too much space, but still allows you to keep larger pots and pans on at the same time. This way, you’ll have some space when you’re cooking.
  • If you have a larger kitchen or a kitchen island and want to avoid an extractor hood at the top, we recommend a Ztove 80 cm induction hob with a built in extractor hood. It will take up a drawer under the hob, but it leaves a lot of space at the top where you can have a wall unit or nothing at all.

Should the induction hob be levelled or flush-mounted?

  • If you want a levelled induction hob, make sure you buy one that has straight edges. A levelled cooktop is a cooktop that is installed so that it is level with the worktop. All Ztove hobs have straight edges. Here you need a precise cut-out of your worktop and your cooktop needs to be grouted.
  • If you want a flush-mounted induction hob so that the glass plate sits on top of the table, it’s a little easier, as you don’t need to cut the same very precise measurements as with flush mounting. Having a flush-mounted cooktop is by far the most common and easiest option.

Installing/assembling your new induction hob

We always recommend using a professional to install your new induction hob. Not all kitchens are the same, so here we’ll go through the specific things you need to be aware of if you find yourself in one of the above mentioned scenarios:

New hob in your new kitchen

When you’re renovating your kitchen or building a new one, you have almost all options depending on the size of your kitchen. Consider how much worktop space you need for everyday tasks.

Find the right hole dimensions for your worktop cut-out

  • The right hole dimensions for a levelled hob are important if you want a beautiful finish in your new kitchen. Here you need to take into account the thickness of the glass plate and the curvature of the edges, among other things. In addition, the hob must be level with the top
  • The correct hole dimensions for a flush-mounted hob are a little easier, as you only need to take into account the dimensions of the ‘box’ underneath the glass top. It is therefore a much simpler cut-out.

If you get your kitchen supplier to cut your worktop, simply send them the installation instructions and they should be able to do the rest.

Your hob is broken or you want to replace it

When you’re installing a new induction hob in an existing kitchen, there are a few more things to consider than if you’re building a new kitchen.

Measure the current hole in your worktop

This should always be the first step in finding a new hob that fits your kitchen. You can often do this by lifting the hob up from below, unless your current hob is levelled.

  • If your current cooktop is levelled and sealed, you can simply measure the width and depth of the hole itself and the width and depth of the glass plate. There will rarely be cases where the ‘box’ underneath doesn’t fit in the hole. Then compare it to the hob you would like to have.
  • If your current hob is flush-mounted, in most cases you can tilt it up by putting your hand through the drawer. If there’s an oven under your hob, find something flat and stick it under the glass top and carefully detach it from the worktop by tilting it up. Be careful not to damage your worktop or hob. Spend a little more time.Measure the hole once you’ve tilted it up.
  • If you don’t know how to do the above, you may be able to find the hob model number by doing an image search on Google or looking it up on your receipt from when you bought it. If you write to us at info@ztove.com, we’ll be happy to help you find the right measurements.

If you have an induction hob with a built-in extractor hood, it’s also worth finding out how tall your current solution is compared to the solution you’d like to implement. In other words, how far does the engine go into your base cabinet

If you want a larger induction hob

If you currently have a 60 cm induction hob and would like to change to an 80 cm induction hob, follow the above and find your current hole dimensions and figure out what new hole dimensions you need.

Find out what type of worktop you have. The type of worktop you have will determine the cost of cutting the hole to size or larger.

  • If you have a wood or laminate worktop, you may be able to cut the worktop yourself or find a carpenter/joiner.
  • If you have a stone worktop and you live in Denmark, we can help you find a partner who will give you a quote for the customisation. It usually costs somewhere between €250 and €600 depending on the type of stone. Our partner does not customise for levelled cooktops.

Find the right induction hob to suit your needs

The size of your induction hob can make or break your cooking experience in the kitchen. We’re talking about counter space, but also consider the size of the zones (cooking areas) and their placement.

When you buy a Ztove induction hob, you get a 24 cm pan and a 3L pot with built-in temperature sensors at the bottom, so you can set the temperature and experience peace and control in the kitchen.
